Event FAQ’s
What is the Spring Auction?
The Langley School Spring Auction is a highlight of the school year and we are thrilled that the event will be in-person this year. Please join us for the auction on Saturday, May 14 at the Conrad Washington, DC.
The evening includes cocktails, a seated dinner, silent and live auctions, raffles, games, live music and dancing. In addition to raising funds to help make possible professional development opportunities for Langley’s incredible faculty and staff, the evening is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the company of other Langley parents, faculty and staff.
Tickets go on sale on Monday, April 4 and registration closes on Friday, May 6. Tickets are limited and will sell quickly.
What is the timeline for the evening?
6:00 PM – Cocktail reception, silent auction, raffles and games
7:30 PM – Seated Dinner, Program and Live Auction
9:30 PM – Live Music and Dancing
11:00 PM – Event Ends
What is included in my ticket?
Tickets are $150 per person and include the cocktail reception (open bar and hors d’oeuvres), a three-course seated dinner with wine, followed by live music and dancing. Raffles, games, silent and live auctions, and raise the paddle are not included in the ticket price.
Faculty and staff are invited to attend the event for free. Tickets are generously underwritten by Langley School families.
Sponsorships are also available. Depending on the level of sponsorship, tickets and/or a table are included in the sponsorship package.
Who do I sit with?
Tables are for 10 guests. If you are purchasing a sponsorship, you will be prompted to enter your guest information, or you can invite your guests to fill out their information using a unique link and code which you will receive on your confirmation page.
If you are purchasing individual tickets and have already organized a table, please let us know who you will be sitting with in the special accommodations box.
If you don’t have a preference, please write your class or grade level, and we'll seat you with friends you're sure to enjoy! We'll do our best to accommodate all requests.
What are the dinner options?
Guests are required to select their meal in advance of the auction on May 14. This year we are offering a choice of:
- Wild Isle Salmon, Lemon Butter, Purslane
- Grass Fed Beef Tenderloin, Bordelaise, Charred Cipollini Onion
- Charred Cauliflower Steak, Pea Curry (Vegetarian)
If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, please note them in the special accommodations box.
Directions and Parking
The auction will take place at the Conrad Washington, DC which is located at 950 New York Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20001.
Valet parking is available at the hotel for a discounted rate. The special rate for event parking is $22.50 and the overnight rate is $54.00.
Everyone is encouraged to have a fun and safe evening. If your evening includes alcohol, please plan ahead by arranging a reliable ride home (designated driver, Uber, Lyft, taxi).
Can I Stay Overnight at the Conrad?

All tickets purchased by April 22 will be entered into a drawing to win a one-night stay at the Conrad on May 14. Faculty and staff who register for the event by this date will be entered into a separate drawing.
What is the Attire for the Evening?
The dress-code for the evening is cocktail attire. Men typically wear a suit and tie while women wear a cocktail dress.
What are Great Gatherings?
Gatherings are a “great” way to make new friends and connect with old friends while enjoying a fun, low-key activity, outing, or event. Come by yourself or make plans with friends to join together – a great time awaits you. Our community is stronger and more connected when we “gather” all year long! It’s all been organized for you – all you need to do is join in! “Buy a spot” for one or more Great Gathering events. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, May 9 at 9:00 AM and sell quickly.
What is the Silent Auction?
The silent auction includes a wide range of exciting items including sports; entertainment; dining; travel and getaway; healthy, wellness and beauty; one-of-a-kind experiences and much more. The Greater Giving mobile/online bidding platform will be used for the silent auction, which also includes a “Super Silent” category of unique items. The “Super Silent” category will close after the other silent auction categories. Guests will bid using their smartphones or desktop computers. Bidding opens on Monday, May 9 and will close at the auction on Saturday, May 14.
What is the Live Auction?
The live auction will take place in-person at the auction on Saturday, May 14. Guests will be assigned a bid number given a bid card at registration. The live auction will occur during the dinner and Sherry Truhlar of Red Apple Auctions will be our auctioneer. Live auction items may be previewed in the auction catalog or on the online bidding platform.
What is Raise the Paddle?
This highlight of the evening takes place during the live auction on Saturday, May 14 and is an opportunity for everyone to make a fully tax-deductible contribution in support of Langley’s outstanding faculty. Not able to attend the event? We hope you will consider making a contribution online or by mailing a check to the Development Office made payable to The Langley School.
What is Bubbles and Baubles?
Purchase a $50 raffle ticket to win a beautiful pearl necklace donated by Dominion Jewelers. Value is $1,800. Only 100 tickets will be sold! During the cocktail reception at the auction you will receive a special glass of champagne in recognition of your support. The winner will be drawn during the live auction. You do not need to be present to win.
What is the Mystery Purse Raffle?
Purchase one ticket for $20 or ten tickets for $100 to win a Tory Burch leather tan tote donated by Bloomingdales. The tote is generously filled with unique items and fun surprises donated by Bloomingdales, businesses in the Mosaic District, and more. Value is $1,000+ ($500 designer purse, plus contents). Don’t miss the opportunity to discover the treasure trove that awaits you! The winner will be drawn at the live auction. You do not need to be present to win.
What is the Wine Toss?
The wine toss will take place during the cocktail reception at the auction on May 14. During this fun game you will have the chance to win a mystery bottle/s of wine and other surprises. Rings cost $10 for three and $15 for five. Tickets are purchased on-site at the event.
What is the entertainment at the event?
We are excited to have The Capital Effect performing at the auction. The Capital Effect are the members of Lloyd Dobler Effect and have been full time touring musicians for over two decades, having performed in over forty states and thirteen countries. These rock n’ rollers have opened for The Goo Goo Dolls, Maroon 5, Kansas, and played sold out shows for packed audiences. They now perform over 75 weddings and private events every year.
They boast a cover song repertoire of over 1,000 songs that includes all genres. They love to take requests. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes!
